Calling all WP bloggers - what do you think... hack, random happening or WP bug?

Got back to my computer tonight and went to check my stats. One of my blogs admin section was trying to run the installer when got back to it. After I told it that I didn't want to reinstall, I got into it. Everything appears to be intact EXCEPT the posts table... nothing minor...

When I got into the Dashboard, I was prompted with a message that there may be a bug in WP and to report the following output to the developer. Had a link to "contact the developer" that I never got to. The output was HUGE and appeared to be a large portion of the site in HTML and some PHP.

After I got that copied into a text editor, I tried to get back to the dashboard and the error went away, so I have no idea where the contact link may have pointed to.

Checking the table in PHPMyAdmin, the posts table is showing as crashed. I've NEVER had something like this happen to any database.

Don't know if this was some sort of hack, WP bug or what.

Got a message into hosting support to check the table out and see where their last restore point would be. Have to wait and see what happens...

Thank goodness for good hosting - one email and 20 minutes. Table restored and site is fine

just seemed really odd that the only thing crashed was the posts table and the installer wanted to run...

Only happened to one blog? Assuming you have more of course... You'd be wise to go through your stats with a fine tooth comb, is it possible someone was running an external script on one of your pages/post? I had some stranger than usual stats today, a genius in Germany had a lot of time on his hands today...

yup - only one site on that host. Went back through the basic stats and I'm thinking I caught it shortly after it happened. There was the usual traffic levels hitting post pages right up until I found it. Unless of course, WP didn't return a 404 that got tracked properly.

I changed the htaccess on the admin directories of all blogs on that host just in case.

Given that I got what appeared to be an actual WP error trap output, it may have been an actual problem with WP that somehow took out the table. Would seem pretty strange to me, but...

I'll be keeping a close eye on sites on that host for sure. I'm on a VSP there, so a limited number of other accounts on the box.
