The comment I posted about earlier that looked real but had some questionable material might have been a pingback. I'm gathering based on what I've just read at the WP help site that pingbacks and trackbacks are good things?

the URL I'd want to send in trackback/pingback posts would be back to teh original post?

Does that make sense?

Hey,

Pingbacks and Trackbacks are generally good things in that they can get you traffic (a trackback puts a link to your article on their site with some excerpt content - pingbacks just put the link). I guess you would run into trouble when you get sites with questionable content or viruses that pingback or track back to your site. Then you look shady by association.

They do synch up with specific posts generally.

I know that in Wordpress you control them in the comments section for the posts they are linking to. I also know that once you get lots of people commenting on your blog, things start to get a little crazy in there. So there are plugins that will separate them out, making them easier to work with.

I just keep mine open, figuring the internet is wild and woolly.

I would be VERY INTERESTED to learn if you run into any specific problems with these. Or if you have any issues with other blogging platforms beside wordpress.
