anyone here running a blog within a static site?

the reason I ask is the blog within my site is ranking well but the static section and where all the links point towards gets next to no traffic - all the traffic is coming directly into the blog and just wondered if anyone else was finding this

Sort of, but I think using a sub domain works a bit better. Least it seems to work that way for me, so far on my new static site.

its odd as I've got two sites set up like this one the traffic all comes via the blog the other its a 50/50 split between static and blog

I've not set them as sub domains - and you know I don't think I'm going to bother from looking at my past experiences mixing static & blogs

bloody SE's

I don't have anything setup like that, but I have heard that is often the case where the blog gets the real traffic

Well for now, the traffic seems to be a 75/25 split with the blogs pulling in the majority, though in fairness, haven't added many new static pages so hard to really judge. I'd guess that if the static was updated on a similar schedule, it might equal the blog traffic, but too, am running like four blogs to the one static, so still if you think about it, a 75/25 overall isn't bad.

Are you still building static sites Tigs - and if so why; or are these older static sites that you put a blog under?

I'd be happy with 75/25 split on this site ! but the other site its nearer 60/40 - I really can't see why the SE on the first site is totally favoring the blog, perhaps I'll try adding more internal links from the blog to the static see if that helps it out

yes, very much so in fact last month I put 2 new sites live both static and I've not put a new blog up for good few months - Blogs aren't the guaranteed success to rankings and with far less layout control, worrying about hacks & constant updating really they are a poor option and given the choice I'll go static every time

Ya, I was just thinking there may be some streamlined cms's out there that don't get the attacks that wp does but would still be adequate for your purposes.

perhaps there is, but to be honest for the odd few blogs I've got its not really a problem - I know of guys that have a 100 odd blogs so make my 10 or so seem pretty lame really

but I've got a plan to hopefully start getting traffic for the static section so we'll see
