Remembering passwords especially if you run multiple blogs / sites is always a problem unless like me you have a photographic memory what was I talking about again

It's a pain remembering passwords but also where / what site you used them on. I'm not too bad at remembering the passwords but its which site I used them on.

Whilst updating my blogs I decided to go though my passwords and tighten them up and still in that process of doing that

How do you store passwords? I've been looking at a few tools such as KeePass but it seems a little clunky to use. LastPass looks interesting. So what are you using, or like a lot of guys using one password for all your blogs

Interesting article on passwords http://www.pcworld.com/article/21545...d_Is_Done.html

Well, I run a few of them blog thingees, and what I do is this.

1. When the 'admin' is first set up, I write the pswd down and store it.
2. I make a new Admin user, with a screen name, and a secondary password, that is secure. By that, I mean it has all those fancy wiggles and stuff as well as the odd letter & number. I write that one down too.
3. I add a 2nd admin user screen name. This is the one I will use to post with, and I add a secure password, that I use with all my 3rd level admins. All I need to remember, is the user name,

Why two additional admins?

If my use for all password gets compromised, I still have an admin access. The use of a second admin without using the default admin, is just for peace of mind.

Besides, with constantly trying to hack into my blogs, to snag all those thong pics I have, well, a guy has to have good security.

It is a daunting task indeed and I can't tell you the # of times I sat trying to remember the pass to specific sites, basically everything we do as webmasters involves logging in with passwords, mail, blogs, servers, ftp, databases etc. It's exhausting.

I've gotten into the strict habit of writing each new password down in pen and ink, keeping it in a safe place so I have a hard copy. Also, though ill-advised, I keep passwords in my browser, it has come handy plenty of times. The one that absolutely drives me nuts is my ccbill webadmin panel, it's set to auto renew about once a month, I've had to write back many time to reset 'cause I couldn't remember, and coming up with a new pass every time can become quite arduous at best.

Another tactic I use that I find helpful is to employ variations on the same theme, in other words choose a form, let's say I had xyz*-123, you could augment that to Xyz*-123 or xYz*-123, or xyz*-321, xyz*-231, etc. or then flip it 123*-xyz, then at least if you did have to use memory, you'd have reasonable options to choose from. And of course that form could work across several different log-in instances...

Anything less than 8 characters would not be in your best interests...

I use KeePass. Free, and you can even run it from a thumb drive. My blog passwords are all random generated. I just copy and paste and I'm in.

If you have a lot of sites KeePass is looking like the option to use and I think thats the one I'm going to use - takes the worry away from storing and you know its secure

Suddenly feeling bad about simply using FF password saving...

I do use different cryptic passwords on all sites though, and usually change the admin user name away from "admin"...

I admit to keeping admin as the admin name. On all my blogs access to wp-admin folder is restricted to just my IP. I figure this should keep out ne'redowells.

The DB has cryptic and random table names, owner name, and password, sewing up that loose end. What else should be done?

KeePass is a very good choice.

Also good to know: There is a KeePass Firefox Plugin called KeeFox that allows you to use KeePass as password storage engine in Firefox.
