Ok, working on a site where I want people to be able to put a pinpoint on a map if they are participating in a project. I want to be able to put the map inside WP to display all the locations where people have chosen to put themselves on the map. Hope that makes sense.

Anybody used a plug-in that will do that and had a good experience with it?

I found one that would do it, but not allow people to add themselves to the map. I'd have to do that from the admin area...

I'd be fine with an external map that people could go to for adding themselves, so long as I could link to where to go and be able to show the map inside WP.

Been ages since I did anything with maps in this way.

been ages for me, we used to have one on the "old forum" that showed where members were. It was an external site members could easily add to and showed pinpoints on a globe map.

I'm sure G and others do it. There has to be a plugin to do this with WP

I found a few references to it, but didn't see anything about WP plugins. I'll check it further though to see if it's a better solution.

Actually just got a basic solution going with "MapPress Easy Google Maps". Only thing missing is the ability for people to put themselves on the map. What I've done is ask that they comment their city/state on the page and I'll add them. Likely not a big overhead and does have the added security that nobody can screw up the map for me.

thanks, spent a couple hours reading details of most of those last night

Tried a few, some didn't even pull up a friggn map... Seems the one thing nobody has done well yet is an integration with Google's MyMap feature. For the moment, I'm ok with the one that I found and implemented. Going to make a feature suggestion to the author and suggest the ability to allow users to add their locations to specific maps.

Also found a good looking store location plugin that is flexible enough for another mapping desire I have on the same site. That one I want tighter control over so adding "locations" myself is better anyway.
