So I'm working more with this one site where I have a lot of pages versus posts (so far). I'm used to using MORE in a post so things like category pages don't get clogged up with too much info. Because I never put a page into a category, I never thought about using MORE on a page.

So over the weekend I was working with the site and had to find all the pages where I used a specific term so I could edit them... Ever look at your own blogs search results page? Boy... was that an eye opener...

Some of the pages are LARGE - in the range of 600-1,000 words when it didn't make enough sense to break them apart... in the blog search results page, there was WAY too much information to look at when those pages came up...

So... just a tip if you neglected that tiny item like I did... may want to add MORE to longer pages

I use the MORE feature on all postings as I don't like categories that you keep having to scroll for every and ever, plus if you keep the MORE feature in the same pages it does make for a far nicer fluid layout when viewing categories

600-1000 words you been doing Ian's ebook on writing

yeah... those are the instructional pages I had a thread going about... couldn't find good enough break points to make them more than one page and since the meta data ends up being the same using the standard paging features, that made no sense either...

There are 10 of those pages total for instructions on a process. After that, all the actual blog posts are in the 300-500 max range. I think over time, it won't make a lot of difference if only those 10 pages are huge. And really, of the 10, I think there are 4 that are under 600 words.

I think the big advantage in using the "more" button is it keeps the flow of the blog the same so your not seeing some postings that 1000 words and others with just 500 - least this way if you always use the more around the same place it keeps the catergoy looking neat

Remember that you can change the MORE text, even on individual pages. You could do something like:

"Keep reading to find out if Tigger loses his thongs..."

After a while, all those MOREs get pretty boring.

I need to use the <--more--!> tag to split pages, is that possible? In other words, not to just extend the article put to <-more--!> to a new series of articles...??

Don't believe so. If you are talking about linking to other posts, not in splitting up a single post, you will need a 'related post' plugin to do that. There are a few, I think, where you can actually set the parameters so it'll pull other posts, based on certain tags, or other criteria that you determine.

but don't quote me on it

that's almost too easy! Thanks!!

Of course, suddenly I'm wondering if there are SEO implications with that.. Possible option to add a keyword in there for an extra internal keyword link?
