Wordpress 3.1 is now available, with a new admin that is supposed to make it easier for even a pudgy fingered quickly add pics and links

now the problem is... you know 3.1.1 will be out in a week, then 3.1.2... so when will be the right time?

There are times when I do wonder why they bother to keep making some releases. I mean the changes so far, seem miniscule when compared to 3.0

I do like the improved link interface, does make it easier and is larger for those of us with poor eyesight.

The addition of an admin toolbar over the page seems stupid to me. I mean you have to be logged in to the admin, then it works. So like, why bother with all that added crap?

And they changed the blasted admin color set too. I simply do not get the reasoning behind some of these changes. Add into it that they had to go through FOUR release candidates before finally releasing a stable version, and you just gotta shake your head.

Given the number of RC and how long the beta was out, I am hopefull that 3.1.1 will be aways off. But hey, who knows anymore.

Now will come all the plugin & theme updates, to stay pace with the core changes

no kidding... have to watch a couple that I had to disable until they caught up around 3.0.4 with versions that worked again...

Yeah, me too.

What really irritates me more than WordPress updating its core files 2 or 3 times a year, is the plugins.

Right after a core update, there are some plugins that update almost the same day, then the next day again, then the next. Hell one even updated three times in one day.

It almost seems like they simply do an upgrade with ZERO testing, then get complaints, do the fix, get more complaints, and on the cycle goes.

Themes, is a mystery to me. I mean, once they are set, what needs to be altered if the basic template code was right to begin with? No core updates will impact that, unless they change the actual code, which they did in 3.0 So why are they farting around updating?

maybe I have been lucky, but I have never had a WP update impact a theme. Of course, I have a couple themes still wanting to upgrade, but I have tweaked the files enough I don't want to bother with the update.

I stopped to tweak them, least other than the CSS that is. For that, I usually have the css file set in a different folder, that can't be overwritten by an upgrade. Then it is simply a matter of changing the url listed in the theme template to call that css file rather than the one that comes with the theme.

Works pretty good, but if I forget, well... I just blame it on
