Something to make even consider upgrading to WP 3.1

A simple and easy way to do Internal Linking of your blog.

Now you can link to other posts, by keywords. Course, you'd have to have already used that keyword in those earlier post, and yes, you'd have to remember it, but hey, its a step in the right direction. Oh, and sorry for the code jockeys, but only available in the WYSIWYG editor, not the HTML editor.

Checked it out on one of my tinkering blogs, and was amazed at how easy it is to use. It worked too, which is a surprise.

Also, a new file gallery plugin that really extends the old WP file gallery. It is a plugin, but haven't played with it yet. Saving that for later, as the 'internal linking' feature is rather, well... fun.

So Mister Pudgy Fingers ( ) having second thoughts yet about upgrading to 3.1?

For linking to an existing post, it is ideal. Played with it a bit, and am going to really start using it tomorrow. It is so simple, even can use it, after a few reds

WP givith... and WP takith away...

they gave us the linking feature and took away the ability to set the posting user inside the post. I don't like to post as "admin" so had to find the other ways to do it...

Then set up a separate poster account with admin features, and uh use that one or alternatively simply use the drop down box in the post admin to select the user you want to show up as the poster.

That's what I have been doing...

here's where it got a bit crazy... did the 3.1 upgrade and the first two blogs I worked on, the user select drop down in the post was MISSING! Hence my post...

Was working on another one yesterday (before the Universe exploded), and it was there?!

Now I'm just confused about why it's there in one blog and not in others... I need a drink...

Have you selected those features to be shown? Check in the post admin section, near the top, there is a drop down, screen options I think its called (don't have a post open right now to check) where you can select to have excerpt, custom fields, author, etc shown in the post admin.

If you are confused, I can do a screen cap for you

Okay it is upper right, but down a bit from the top section and is called 'screen options'. Should note that it is different options, if you have just posts selected, showing all posts. To get the features like author etc, go to add a new post, then click the drop down box and all your missing fields will be there, for you to check and have magically appear.

Either that or just drink enough red wine, and you wont care if they are showing or not

I'd have to take a look. It's not something that I ever remember intentionally turning on or off in any blog. Just always been there

For some of my blogs, the upgrade to 3.1 from 3.0.5 turned off some of the features. Soon as I clicked add new post, then clicked the screen options drop down, they were there, unchecked. Checking put them all back where I wanted and only cost three bottles of medium red
