Been thinking about certain aspects of writing. I tend to review things every now and again to try and make sure I'm still on some kind of track.

I started thinking about keyword density in blog posts. There are at least a couple plugins that will give percentages for you, so you have something a little more quantified than how it feels. I try to write something that sounds like fairly normal English language, but often, I'm not sure the keyword density is high enough to catch the bots attention properly.

If I focus on the keywords, I often feel like it sounds spammy...

So, anybody using anything to measure keyword density in their blogs? Does it really matter these days?

if it reads fine the keyword density is fine - the days of keeping pages between 5-8% of keyword density is long gone

Gotta say, if it reads well, then screw whether the density is good or not. Not like Google is buying any memberships, nor do they even tell us what they expect, other than content, backlinks, and natural links, uh yeah right G,

I've seen so many variations of "On-Page SEO Gospel" that I completely avoid thinking about it.
The only SEO-like process I use in writing is focussing on using both American and British terminology.

Write to draw in the audience, and write with passion about the subject, and you can't really go wrong.
I think people focus too much on the "implied" rules of writing, when Google is just looking for good, relevant, interesting and informative sites to offer. I don't think all the SEO in the word can help if the content is just not interesting enough.
Whatever gains might be made in on-page SEO tactics, it's probably lost in poor readership and engagement anyway.

oh I don't know so much about that - I still see a lot of old style doorways with mass produced pages and just locations / products changed to pull the local searches

I agree write for surfers - optimise for traffic
