There are several free themes that offer a blend of thumbnails and excerpts. I use Evolve at my Average Joe blog ( warning hot guys ) and rtMoto at this one Only Sex ( yeah same warning, hot men ) The links to their sites are at the bottom.

Another one that is just photos on the front page, is this one, autofocus that is rather nice that I use at Erection Stimulus.
