My current wordpress blog sits in the root of my website. So all you have to do is type in domain.com and it sends you to my blog. What I want to do is move it to domain.com/blog. Now I did this before with a blog with only about 20 posts and it was a pain because I had to go through and manually change all the image links. Has anyone ever done this with a larger sized blog and if so how did you do it without having to manually change all the image links.

I've moved a wordpress blog lots of times. What I do is move all the files to a new directory and then go into the database via phpmyadmin and in the "options" table change the siteurl to the new URL "yoursite.com/blog"

Also are you using wordpress's built in media manager to handle all of your images or are you using a plugin?

If you are just using wordpress then changing the siteurl in the database will work and then after you make the change, go into wp-admin and the "General" settings section and make sure the URLs all have been changed.

I've never moved one so can't help - but aren't you concerned about the SE traffic? after all the blog will have been fully crawled so your going to be duplicating it

My main concern is that all my inbound links are going to be broken and I'll lose a ton of traffic. Unless there is some kind of redirect plugin that takes my old inbound links and somehow directs them to the new domain.com/blog link, then im screwed here. Piss poor planning on my part I guess.

they will still be pointing to the domain so your not going to loose them are you, as you will I assume have something on the top level ? - using a plug in redirect will not help with loss of link juice, true it will hold the traffic flow but not the SE benefit that the links will offer

as for piss poor planning, I think we are all guilty of that at some stage when you wish you could set something up different but the ball is rolling

I'd like to put a main page on the top level. I'd like to give people options to go to my forum, blog, members section or different sections of the site that I want to add in the future. I might just set up a page on wordpress and have that be the mainpage. That will probably be easier in the end.

In that case why not put a static index page onto the blog - then you can do whatever you want

That's what im going to do. It would be nice if It could be a page not created by wordpress. I want my static index page to be nudity free so I could set up an age verification feature but there is tons of nudity on my logo.

not much you can do about the header, shame its the best option

not unless some geek can code a header for that page alone, don't even know if something like that could be done

Thats a great idea. I can add a new header.php in the theme folder and then set up my index to pull that instead of the existing one. Excellent idea Tiggs.
