you never think about backups until you need them. I used to make it a point to backup once a year on a hard drive and store that drive in the closet without power. This gives you a pristine backup that is not likely to fail when you need it.

Thinking of this reminds me I should backup things soon, my last drive backup is almost 2 years old.

I keep 2 local backups on 2 external hard drives. They arent exact copies of what I have on my server though. Since I host my own sites, I don't have a hosting company to fall back on.

What im going to do also is start making an exact copy of my public_httml folder and store it on my local external drive. That way Ill have copes of all my wordpress folders and files, plugins and all which I don't have saved on my 2 local externals. Maybe I'll do that today.

it really does make you wonder how far you take back ups after all what if the back up fails, do you have a back up of the back up and have a master back up somewhere else

I don't host myself so have the fall back of the hosting company, plus I use a small server that backs up to an internal drive and even then I don't trust it so once a month back that up to a extremal drive that once backed up then keep in another room .........talk about paranoid

I think ill keep my backups to just 2 hard drives. And then maybe mirror the original server hard drive just in case. That should cover my bases. I would think its rare to have the backups and the server fail at the same time. Oh and maybe keep one of the back up drives in a fire proof lock box just in case.

And if all that fails then assume its a sign from God telling me to get the hell out of the adult business.
