Here's a lesson to all of you. Never put backup copies of your wordpress files in the same folder as your original installation. I accidentally deleted my website folder that had my wordpress site and backup files. And worse yet I never saved the backups to my backup hard drive for whatever reason. Im so fucked. Now I have to rebuild it all over again.

Check with your hosting people, they may have a backup. It may be a week old but its better then a complete rebuild.

Unfortunately I am the hosting people. Well anyway it took me 24 hours but I've finally gotten my site back to where it was yesterday. All i had to do was re-install everything and re-size some pics manually. Took me all damn day but it's done. Never wanna go through that again. Oh but the Forum I fear is lost forever.

you were lucky it was only the forum you lost !!

but I've been down the same road as you and my host had a back up that was only a day old so not so bad - but I learnt a lesson about where I save my back ups

On the plus side no one ever used the forum so its no big loss. But from now on all backups are going in a separate folder outside of my public directory.

forums are a great idea for a website but you need a crap load of traffic to make them work - I added one on local expat directly where I live and in theory it should be busy but no one posts in it ........lots look

I store my backups on a terra station then once a month back that up onto extremal drive, so in theory "should" be OK assuming worst case that the server gets hacked, my backup on the terra station goes down and my monthly extremal back ups fail ...........if so I'm fucked LOL

You hosting provider may have backup copies if that service was offered. It may cost you a few bucks to get it restored. Most accouns allow for a couple of restore before charging. Could not hurt to check.

Yea we all have learned our backup lesions the hard way....
