I saw this car on some site and at first looked interesting, but that was until I found out it was electric!

After all the idea of owning a sports car is the rev the thing up and feel the V8 or 12 shaking the car not some pussy electric engine squealing away like some hair drier thats got a turbo fitted.

Bloody electric sports car FFS leave alone heres the car and just remember don't get excited its ELECTRIC

All though i think it`s a good thing to fight global warming and such on all fronts. I probably don`t get used to electric cars i want to hear noise and smoke!

But it`s for new generations, they probably have to on a certain point use these things.

Just imagine that we would been brought up with electric cars and suddenly they build v8 turbos. We would probably say: what a noise and what a stench, how can you drive such a thing.

You'd be surprised at the torque of an electric motor. Pound for pound, an electric motor will get a car to speed faster than a gas motor, because of the way the horsepower is delivered at low versus full RPM.

Ever test drive the GM ER-1? I did. Though very old technology by today's standards, it had amazing accelleration. Hit the pedal and you'd feel it in the seat. The computer in the car actually limited the torque to the motor.

They can always synthesize the sound of a V12 and amplify it out of a big loudspeaker. Your Prius can sound like a vintage E-Jag any time!

I hear Iran is coming out with a nuclear powered sports car?

I had a 930 Porsche when it was about the fastest car available in the us.

have you read the stats on the Tesla? It out performs virtually everything on the road for 2-3x the price! Sure, it's about $100K, and gets only a couple hundred miles per charge, but you can plug it in virtually anyplace to charge up durning a meal and get back on the road.

You can have all the rumble you want from a v12 or anything else - when I'm driving a performance car, I'm wanting performance. Acceleration, cornering, balls out speed - the Tesla delivers in every category. As a bonus, it will likely cost less to maintain over time than anything else in it's performance range since from a mechanical standpoint, it's simple compared to an engine heavy sports car.

Say what you want - I'd get one if I was in the market for that type of performance with that type of price.

not really VG as I've driven one and yes the acceleration is quick but it doesn't get away from knowing you've got a proper big lump in front of you.

My neighbor has a DB7 and you can hear the thing thumping along from Alicante (100 miles away) and yes I'm as green as hell when I see it Now THATS what you call a sports car !!! power with luxury

What I meant about the EV1 is that despite it being an electric car it had amazing accelleration, and that accelleration was actually restricted by General Motors to make the battery appear to last longer.

As S4E mentions, the Tesla is an amazing performance car where many of the EV1's limitations are removed.

Electric motors provide maximum torque even at slow speeds - in fact, an electric motor delivers full torque at 0 rpm, versus a gas motor which doesn't supply full torque unless it's on the top end of it's normal turning revs - 3,500 rpm or whatever. That's why on a 0-60 race an electric vehicle perform very well, especially if they use variable transmissions.

While an electric vehicle may have limits on the top end, let's be realistic: most driving is done under 40-50 mph, and it's the *accelleration* that makes a car seem sporty.

Agreed, a DB9 (or better a vintage DB5) may be more fun to drive because of its "throaty" sound, but I was being serious about electronically copying that sound and just amplofying it out of a loudspeaker. Some electric car enthusiasts are doing just that.

All this was driven home (pun intended) some years ago when I last visited Disneyland with my son. At that time they had these "Rocket Rods" that were electrically driven. These things had the pickup of a V8 or even V12, but of course were much, much smaller.

They were a blast, and in fact probably had too much torque to be safe. Disneyland removed the attraction a few years later, they say because the cars were too fast for the track they were used on.

Also ... saw my first Tesla (a red one, naturally) on the road last week. Beautiful car. Gave me wood.

well it was a good job you were looking in the right direction otherwise you would have missed it

I know electric cars do have the uptake and can pull away and I'm sure we will see more of these things on the road but given a choice of a v12 or some electric hybrid thing the v12 gets my vote

And as for a frigging big speaker in the boot next you'll be telling me wives fake there orgasms

Nothing beats a VINTAGE 60s British motorcar for sound. No Ferrari, Lambo, Detroit muscle car, anything. The rumble from a '64 E penetrates you. In fact no loudspeaker could replicate it (because of the sub-sonics), other than for the fun. The only way to experience it is to drive one.

BUT, they just don't make them like that any more. You'd have to put glass packs on that modern-day Aston-Martin to make it sound anywhere like the one Bond, James Bond drove.

I grew up with 50s and 60s Jags and if I had the money, that's what I would be driving. But I don't, so I drive a beat up Toyota Tercel with a bad catalytic converter that won't pass smog.
