for cabling you can pay anything from £1 meter to £50 and a lot more I've seen cable at £100 a meter but if your spending 100k on a home set up whats another 10k on speaker wire LOL - I did a deal when I moved here and got all the cabling free but that was because I'd researched the online price and went to the local dealers that I knew had them in stock

I told them if they matched the online price I would buy - the guy said yes, then told him the online price included all speaker cabling so I got £600 worth of speaker wire. The wire I bought was £10 a meter and is a good quality - The cable I'm running my Kef shelf speakers on was about £3 meter and is ok

LOL .....good one NOPE

least not in your case - the rear speakers have the same output - the only time you can do that is if the rear speakers are smaller than the front - plus the rear is supposed to only be for fill in sound so don't take anywhere near the same power .....not in your case as the speakers are all the same

I used a slightly lower grade cable for my rear speakers but also the rear ones here are half the power of the front ones .

And assuming you have a good clean powerful amp, Tigs, those Kef's won't distort if you play them loud?

How much power per channel do you look for in an amp?

The specs look great for the subwoofer. In the old days, they couldn't really get low base ie 30 hz, so they boosted the power at 80 Hz or something like that. Sounded like shit or pretty much the same as the loud thump thump systems in cars.

If you recall the movie Apocalypse Now, the theaters actually had a special speaker for the low base in the scene with the Napalm. I actually had one of those woofers. It was 4 ft x 4 ft x 16 in or so. I could make the neighborhood rumble but it was that real low base.

Or do you remember the Klipsch Horns:

They could really put out some low base because they used part of your house as the horn design, but the upper end sucked because they put another horn in there for that so it sounded like a loudspeaker.

no I don't use a separate power amp on my main system but when you consider its got a seven channel 120wpc power amplifier integrated (although I only use 5 ) I don't think its required - and ideally I look for 60watts per channel upwards.

My main system will basically shake the house apart and when watching action films I do have to move some ornaments as the low base vibrates and moves them - in fact the main sub I've had to use a strap on the wall to keep it in place as it moves across the floor but when you consider your looking at frequency response 3dB 30Hz - 150Hz thats pretty low

With modern amps & speakers you can get a really good sound without separate power amps and the old monster speakers we had to buy - a bit like the little Kef speakers I pointed out to you - for such a little unit they pack a great sound and with the sub offer a lot of depth and low tones.
