How about a different approach? Ok, this is big (or you'll probably tell me it's been tried and doesn't work)

Sort of "small biz" union, where:

-> participating PRODUCERS would stop giving away anything for free - max 1,2 photos/ few seconds teaser per set, but these scarce teasers would be of highest quality to hopefully get punters to sign up (Hi-Res photos, HD vids).

-> participating AFFILIATES would never promote any non-union site on sites where they promote union sites.

I believe there is place for high quality content, and especially for niche content to be sold. The more niche thing one wants, the less satisfying tube sites are.

Of course these small teasers and promo tools would have to kick ass, and even a new platform can be programmed to stream/show only such videos, thus protecting and separating them from the rest of the crowd, and making it hard to go to torrent sites.

Another thing is, technology can be created to uniquely but invisibly mark each downloaded piece, so whoever puts your content on torrent/tube, you are able to ID him easily - should be motivating enough for people not to do so.

but it makes you wonder if they really care? what is the loss of revenue compared to the advertising they sell via tubes & links onto cams sites? - it maybe a case of its OK for them but fuck the webmaster thats still trying to generate affiliate income

Can they really be making that much money off advertising. If it was so lucrative wouldn't the TV networks be giving away their programming for free instead of charging us through sites like Hulu or Netflix? I think the companies that use the tubes are just being lazy and taking the easy money not realizing how much more money they could be making if they would just take some extra steps to protect their content. I really like that union idea. I wonder how feasible it is to actually start a porn union.

Why not, if you're an affiliate or a producer, there, we already have someone interested, and we can go ahead and get more and more interest.

This would have exclusivity written all over it, and would not be geared towards cheapsters/freebie seekers.
Serious kick-ass content nowhere else to bi found - at appropriate price.

Of course, it wouldn't succeed over night, and we can't know would it succeed at all if we don't try.

Affiliates could try this easily, by simply reserving one of their sites to try it out.

Producers, that's a different story, they'd have to shoot some quality sets and put full trust in the idea by not releasing those sets nowhere else.

So guess to make this work, someone would need to persuade a decent number of producers to stand behind the idea. Well, I'm quite a negotiator, but...is anyone else seeing this as worth pursuing?

OMG. That ratio can't be serious. If it is then you need to follows Tiggs advice and get some different traffic sources. Back in the day I was getting 1/25 registrations and maybe 1/100 sales. Oh the good ole days.

remember those well and thinking this "new" way to watch porn films was the best thing to hit the industry - and for a few years made a good income from it .......now "just" about holding onto some income

It's not a case of different traffic but more targeted and making sure you guy the guy enough to make him want to watch the film without thinking about looking for the tubes.....not an easy task, but it can be done

5 years ago I was sending my VOD sponsor about 200 uniques a day and making roughly $8 a day. Today im sending them 600 uniques a day and i go for days without sales. The difference was my traffic. Before I was buying ads on google targeting adult on demand or pay per view porn keywords. Today I send most of my traffic from my busty Latina blog which is not targeted towards VOD at all. Competition for adult on demand porn is really tough now. I used to run a site trying to target VOD but I couldnt get it to rank high at all.
