Wondering if anyone using Window 7 has any experience with respect to your FTP client, particularly setting it up or configuring it. I'm getting extremely slow transfer rates, was trying to go through the help documents and it seems the Windows firewall and/or using a specific port may mend the problem. I use Filezilla, on XP is was great, something amiss now surely and I don't see anything within' the program itself that may remedy this issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, gracious...

sorry my Friend, but not on Win7 yet and have not heard of that issue before.

If you change port information, it still needs to match the server, so I'm not seeing that as a solution up front. Just to double check... connection is fine for everything else? web? general internet access?

Try to disable the firewall for a short time to see if there is any difference in transfer rate. It's possible it's getting in the way.

That is what I'm going to have to do, but there must be some configuration issue at play here. Port 21 is pretty much default, 587 works for some mail clients, but ports can range from 1 to over 5000.

Very frustrating, I'm not going to live long enough by the time the queue finally loads...

but the port is specific to the protocol. Using a non-standard port is fine, if the server is configured to answer FTP requests at that port as well. If the server is on the default FTP port 21, then your client has to match.

Check what Jello mentioned - active or passive mode. I think it's configurable and sometimes needs adjusting.

I was running it in auto, but also tried passive mode. I'll try and see what configurations are available, I dropped the question in the filezilla forums and got no response, royal pain in the astabuella. Same program ran fine on XP, thanks for the replies...

Ya know what, if someone wants to make me an offer you can have the whole kit and kaboottle, I'll even throw in the mouse and a can of kraft cheese. This shit is like the bizarro world, all of these little mundane redundant irrating bullshit problems, OIYEE!! Now the links in my thunderbird mail client want open, I know there is a reason for that, but I've forgotten what it is. Okay, who's the voodoo master sticking pins in the housekeeper doll? Plus there's been some other whacky shit that I don't even want to admit to, oiyee!! The mysteries of the universe, gotta luv 'em...

Well, I will probably be in the news regarding Win 7, but the headline will read "local man seen hurling Win 7 into Hudson River, news at 11pm".

Seriously, make me an offer and all these headaches and more can be yours. A case of red, a bag of green, two chickes and a goat, any takers???
