I have been reading a lot about how mobile porn may be the future of the adult industry as well as the growing trend of companies tinkering with 3D tech. Now from someone who doesn't know much about computer engineering, I am curious how much investment will demand from the company who'd like to venture into this.

How practical would it be as an investment? How much work does it entail to have your site to be mobile optimized or be ready for stereoscopic technology (3D)?

For mobile optimized site, do you have to customize your site according to the mobile technology used, i.e. iPhone, the iPad and the Android-driven smartphones? Do you have to change your content PER type of phone or there is an encompassing software that does it for you? And how far long does this investment take before you have to update them?

And with converting your site to 3D, how drastic will you need to change your content? And what hardware and software will you need to keep a 3D-enabled site running?

I think that really depends on what your site is. If you are on the affiliate side and setting up sites with the intent of driving traffic, getting ready for mobile can be as simple as having a mobile theme setup to detect mobile traffic and deliver them a layout appropriate to their device. In many ways, this can be accomplished with CSS and having a style sheet optimized for mobile devices. If you've got a wordpress blog, there are mobile themes available that do the detection pretty well and are set to go. Customizing them is a plus though, so they match the rest of your site.

You also need to look at what content you're delivering. Does it work on a mobile device? Are you pointing the surfer to mobile content that will also work on their device or do your sponsors support mobile well enough to work on mobile devices?

If you are running a program, you may have to rework some content to work on mobile devices. At that level, you really need to be thinking about how to sell to mobile surfers.

The only 3D things I'm aware of that are really out there have specific hardware requirements for the users. If you don't meet them, you don't get to play... I think until those situations are dealt with, so these types of limits are eliminated, that market can't spread too far.

I don't know that mobile is truly the future of adult, but I know there are plenty of people who do think that. I think for sure it will continue to be a larger and larger component of the adult market, so everybody needs to work on how to address it. It's a good thing we have nothing else to do with our time other than figure out new markets!

I'm not into this mobile revolution and the need to in touch with the world 247 and have everything at your fingers even when your not at home, so I'm struggle to relate to your question BUT even if I was away from my desk and had a life I would still have a preference of watching / surfing on a larger screen rather than some hand held phone

I don't see the mobile industry as the future of porn and more another tool for people to access it and I wonder if people don't use mobile devises for research / finding sites then watch them in the comfort of a bigger "hands free" screen

Mobile is an access technology; 3D is a entertainment platform. Comparing them is a non sequitir.

While some mobile device could eventually have a 3D screen (or more likely, immersive 3D goggles that provide a virtual experience), that's not really the point. We only now have to worry about providing separate content because the mobile device makers either can't settle on the standards they want to embrace, or the device itself is not capable of supporting the technology.

A good case in point is Flash video. It consumes huge amounts of CPU. Mobile devices are lacking there, both in processor power, and battery life.

and this shows just how unclear things can be when talking about technologies. When 3D was mentioned initially after mobile, my head went straight to things like Second Life. It's not 3D as compared to movies and what some TV's can do now, but creates a virtual 3D space to interact with.

All part of the fun of technology...
