Two of the internet's biggest pornography firms are suing the net's address regulator, Icann, over its introduction of the .xxx suffix.

Manwin Licensing and Digital Playground have also filed a lawsuit against ICM Registry, which is running the new top-level domain name (TLD).

The firms claimed that the decision to create .xxx had been flawed and that ICM had abused its position.

ICM said that the claims were baseless. Icann said it was reviewing the case.

The good, the bad and the ugly is one of my all time favorite films. I rent it every two years or so in July. Get a bottle of tequila and open all the windows so its hot for the proper ambiance.

Oh I think it could be very entertaining. Lawley is a crook and worse, a religious wing nut, so I am sure he'll be entertaining in his defence of his segration TLD. Course its not getting the sales he hoped for, other than TM holders who feel the need to protect their brand. Be nice to see them join in the lawsuit to sort of, well stir the pot even more

Hell not me. I would fight to the last breath before I pushed a XXX domain, I'd cut off my right arm ( okay not mine, maybe ) before I bought one of that crook's domains.

From what I have heard, ain't no one making a plugged nickle in that area, that the type in traffic is pitiful at best, and rankings simply dont exist in this sphere of influene.

In other words, only one making a killing is the bully who forced it onto the world, Lawley.

agree - had the chance to pick up a VERY good swingers / contacts name but I gave the finger to it

I've not seen any xxx sites in the serps and bet most people buying these are either clueless idiots thinking they are buying into top rankings or big brands protecting names

It will take a lot to make surfers realize that the XXX at the end of the title is actually the TLD. Most would type in BLAHBLAHXXX.com instead of BLAHBLAH dot XXX

After all how many sites use that in their actual title? I know I do, and several others, so thankfully the punters will think its all part of the title and not find the dot xxx version of anything.

One of my programs bought one, promises to be a lot more to follow. I dropped a couple of promotions, but have yet to make a sale. The whole concept, and based on the newness, seems to be promoting the domain extension. But of course surfers don't really care about that, it's just another new site with the same type of content that's on all the others sites, so that in a nutshell will be the draw.

My feeling has been the same all along, when the dust settle and all the stars align, are we going to be forced to use that extension by virtue of selling adult content, me thinks so. The prices should have fallen by then, but I wouldn't expect by much. It's a movement you'd best believe, certainly not a phenomenon, but ultimately a way of sticking it to us hard working porn peddlers. But again I'll give it a year, and keep my popcorn at hand for the magnanimous lawsuit....

Well, despite the lawsuit, the one saving grace is that the Religious Wing Nuts oppose it as vehementally as the Porn Industry does.

Will we be forced to use it? Given how violent the USA is to being forced to do anything, even under the guise of protecting the wee ones, I don't see it happening in North America anytime soon, a year or two or five even.

In addition, I think this particular lawsuit is just an opening salvo, and ICANN is too sensitive to such actions. They are after all, political appointees, and their masters are very sensitive to the perception of being censors, of being evil, even though the facts show they are. People are willing to overlook a lot, but it seems censorship, segregation, aren't in that area.

Problem is HK, sitting back will never accomplish change, or right wrongs. Keeping the pressure on, does make for change, does alter opinions, and it can take eons, or seem to. The more these attacks on XXX are made public, are discussed, the less likely XXX will gain support, will even survive.

Call it naive, but history has shown that a voice in the wilderness can make a difference.

If sites are forced to use it for porn, do you know how many mainstream sites that would effect? Youtube, most all those clips and humor sites, hundreds of thousands of normal sites that have tits in them.

Imagine the legal mess of figuring out who has to use it and who does not. Ouch,,,, no it would be impossible.

agree Bill, it can't be done - safe guards are in place to stop Ks from accessing porn, but parents need to be parents and get the guards in place that have been around for years ...........if they can be arsed
