The days of pretending to be Mickey Mouse or Daffy Duck when you register a domain name could be numbered, following demands placed on ICANN by law enforcement agencies and governments.

ICANN is currently locked in contract talks with its accredited domain name registrars, and expects they will agree to make the verification of customer identities mandatory later this year.

Uk is controlled by Nominet so not Icann and whilst your "supposed" to complete the correct contacts details most don't and its not rigorously policed, just make sure you have a current email address for contacts details as they will send an email for verification......this may well change if they want to follow Icanns lead

Looks like its time to get the guys who pushed back SOPA involved. Another internet blackout might be necessary to get this potential law shelved.

difference is sopa could have effected everyone .....this will only impact on webmasters .....look at how xxx got pushed through

SOPA isn't dead yet, it will be back with another name. In the meantime there is PCIP.

The Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011 would require Internet providers to retain archives of every subscriber’s online activity for up to 18 months, including phone records, credit-card numbers, websites visited and bank-account data.
